Wesley Bumped in CAC First Round
FREDERICK, Md. - Hood's Bridgette Ringley allowed just six hits and struck out 10 Wesley College batters as the Wolverines fell 6-1 in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Playoffs.
With the loss, the Wolverines (7-17) will face Stevenson in an elmination game on Saturday, April 18 at noon.
Hood (10-21) scored once in the first inning when Ashley Lenhart doubled and later scored on a passed ball.
Jess Krietz added an RBI double in the second and Sara Wastler drove in a pair with a single as the Blazer lead stretched to 4-0 after the second inning.
After a Krista Zerby double brought home a fifth run in the third, Wesley struck back in the top of the fourth. Lyndsey Ellsworth (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Tech) led off the inning with a double down the left field line and scored on a single by Megan Street (Bridgeville, Del./Epworth Christian).
That was as close as the Wolverines could get, however, as Zerby led off the sixth with a home run to make it 6-1 and cap the scoring.
Street and Ellsworth had two hits each for the Wolverines. Street took the loss against an efficient Blazer offense that scored six runs on just eight hits.
In Friday's other first round game, Stevenson fell 6-0 at York (Pa.). The Wolverines and Mustangs split the season series.
