Wesley Stays Hot Against Salisbury

Box Score

Dover, Del. - Wesley won their second game in three days, defeating visiting Salisbury University 67-50 at the Wentworth Gymnasium. Wesley's Angie Owens (Seaford, Del./Seaford) led the way once again scoring 18 points while grabbing 11 rebounds and swatting away 4 Seagull shots.

Owens' effort vaulted her to the top of the scoring average chart for the Wolverines (7-6, 3-1 CAC) at 14.8 points per game. Her four blocks gives her 44 so far this season. But Owens wasn't the only Wolverine scoring.

Four Wolverines scored in double figures including 15 a piece from Colleen Thomas (Howell, N.J./Howell) and Cory Boyd (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant). Wesley was dead on shooting the ball in the first half hitting just over 45 percent (14 of 31) from the floor, with six of thier misses from three point territory.

Although Salisbury (1-13, 1-4 CAC) was up by four points five minutes into the game, the more experience Wolverines soon took control of the game. Two steals by Ambre Burbage (Seaford, Del./Seaford) and subsequent layups by Owen and Boyd pushed Wesley's lead to 10 points with just over 5 minutes remaining in the first half.

Salisbury fought hard to remain close as the Seagulls most experienced player Kylie Hall put in a team high 14 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, but Wesley held a 9 point lead at half.

As good as Wesley shot in the first half, they shot even better in the second. The Wolverines were red hot shooting 51 percent from the floor including 5 of 10 from behind the arc. Leading the way in the second half was feisty guard Latasha Torres (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) who nailed 3 of 4 three pointers. Torres finished the game with 14 points, also adding 4 assists.

Wesley pushed their second half lead to as much as 19, but settled in for a decisive 17 point defeat of their Route 13 rival. The Wolverines complete their four game home stand against Hood College on Saturday, game time 2:00 p.m.
