Wolverines cruise past Hood
Dover, Del. - Wesley's Colleen Thomas (Howell, NJ/Howell) led the Wolverines (8-6, 4-1 CAC) to a romping 80-50 victory against the overmatched Blazers of Hood College (3-12, 1-5 CAC) at the Wentworth Gymansium. Thomas led all scorers with 21 points on 8 of 12 shooting from the floor, including 4 of 6 from behind the arc.
Wesley shot incredibly well from behind the arc, draining a Capital Athletic Conference record 16 threes in the game.
Wesley built a quick 22-2 lead by the 10 minute mark of the 1st half. Thomas was hot early dumping in 12 points in the first half. As a team Wesley shot 43.2 percent in first half.
Hood on the other hand had trouble holding onto the ball. The Blazers committed 16 turnovers in the half.
Wesley's Michele Mules (York, PA/Susquehannock) and reserve Ambre Burbage (Seaford, Del./Seaford) added two three pointers in the first half finishing the with six points each. Wesley held a sizeable 40-14 lead going into the lockerroom.
It didn't get much better for the visting Blazers in the second half as Wesley shot even better from the field. Thomas added 9 more before hitting the bench for reserves. Most of Wesley's starters were pulled with at least 7 minutes remaining, but that didn't stop the scoring.
Reserve guard Shavonda Cephas (Milford, Del./Milford) added 10 of her 12 points in the second half draining two three pointers and four shots at the charity stripe.
Guard Latasha Torres (Sharon Hill, PA/Academy Park) finished with 11 and fellow guard Cory Boyd (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant) added 8 and a game high 10 assists.
The Wolverines ended their four game home stand 3-1 and now travel to York (Pa.) on Monday, January 19th for a 6:00 p.m. game.
