Thomas Leads Wesley Past St. Mary's
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Wesley College's Colleen Thomas (Howell, N.J./ poured in 21 points and hit five threes as the Wolverines defeated St. Mary's (Md.) 67-60 on the road in Capital Athletic Conference action.
Threes by Michele Mules (York, Pa./Susquehannock) and Thomas started an 13-3 Wesley (14-11, 10-6 CAC) run late in the second half to erase a Seahawk lead and take a 63-56 run with 1:14 left in the game.
St. Mary's (9-16, 6-10 CAC) had taken the lead with a 12-2 run to open the second half that featured a pair of three by Kiely Murphy and three field goals by Tiara Hurte as the Seahawks went up 42-33 with 16:27 to go in the game.
Wesley opened the game with nine straight points, but St. Mary's would battle back to take an 18-17 lead with 5:23 left in the half. The team's traded leads down the stretch before the Wolverines took a 31-30 advantage into the locker room.
Angie Owens (Seaford, Del./Seaford) had a double-double for Wesley with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Cory Boyd (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) had 10 points and four steals.
Murphy and Allie Scott had 14 apiece to lead St. Mary's. Hurte added a dozen points.
Wesley will be the fourth seed in the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference Championship Tournament and will host the five seed Salisbury on Tuesday, February 24 at 7:00 PM.
