Wesley Falls in Final Minute

Box Score

DOVER, Del. - A lay up by Jackie Bohenek with 40 seconds left proved to be the difference as No. 10 Marymount (Va.) held off Wesley College in CAC action, 72-69.

Reserves Lydia Jackson (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) and Jasmine Barksdale (Pikesville, Md./Roland Park Country School) combined for the Wolverines (2-3, 0-2 CAC) final 11 points and took a 69-67 lead with 50 seconds left after a Barksdale field goal.

Terrell White was fouled on the Saints (6-0, 3-0 CAC) next possession and after making the first free throw, missed the second.  Bohenek was right there for the offensive rebound and the put back to give Marymount a 70-69 lead.  White blocked the Wolverines next shot, but Bohenek turned the ball over with eight seconds left.  Wesley returned the favor and was forced to foul.  White, who had hit just 4-of-11 free throws prior to that in the game, calmly sank a pair with seven seconds to go for a three point advantage.

Wesley had one last gasp, but was unable to get a shot off on its final possession.

Marymount (Va.) led the entire first half and entered the intermission with a 31-26 advantage.

In the second half, however, Wesley regrouped to hit 15-of-22 field goals (68 percent).  The Saints opened up a 36-28 lead after two points by Julie Tomesheski with 18:23 left in the game, but a three by Angie Owens (Seaford, Del./Seaford) started a 15-5 run and the Wolverines led 43-41 after a three by Jackson with 13:44 left.

After six more lead changes in the next 10 minutes, Bohenek gave Marymount a 64-58 lead with 3:33 to play before Jackson and Barksdale led a Wesley comeback.

The freshman reserves combined for 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting.  Jackson had 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting and hit both of her attempts from long range.  Barksdale, meanwhile, sank 4-of-5 from the field and grabbed six rebounds.

Owens led Wesley with 19 point, hitting 8-of-11 field goals and two of her three three point attempts.

Amanda Billy did most of her damage for the Saints in the first half, finishing with a game-high 21 points aided by a 5-of-11 effort from three point distance.  White added 16 points and seven assists, while Bohenek netted 11 points.

Wesley is idle for finals for the next week until a December 14 road trip to York (Pa.) for a 6:00 PM start with the men's teams finishing the doubleheader at 8:00 PM.
