Owens, Boyd Honored by D3hoops.com
MINNEAPOLIS - Wesley College's senior duo of Angie Owens (Seaford, Del./Seaford) and Cory Boyd (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) were named to the D3hoops.com All-Atlantic Region teams.
Owens was chosen to the first team, while Boyd earned a spot on the third team. It marks the first time in school history that two players have made the D3hoops.com All-Region teams.
Both players were named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference first team after finishing first and second in the league in scoring.
Owens moved up to the first team this season after taking second team honors a year ago and third team honors in 2008-09. Boyd is making her first appearance on the all-region team.
Owens, who was named the CAC Co-Player of the Year, led the CAC in scoring (14.9 ppg), points (431), field goals made (181), field goal percentage (.511) and blocked shots (57). She is also second in rebounding (10.0 rpg) and tied for third in steals (64).
Boyd, meanwhile, finished second only to Owens in the CAC in scoring (13.4 ppg) and points (361). She led the conference in assists with 165 and rates eighth in Division III at 6.1 per game. Her 48 made threes and .397 percentage from long range both tied for fourth in the CAC.
Wesley joined Kean and Mount St. Mary's (N.Y.) as the only teams with multiple All-Atlantic Region selections.
Owens and Boyd helped Wesley earn its first ever trip to the CAC Championship Game, a 16-win season and a trip to the ECAC South Tournament.
