Women’s Hoops Edged By Marymount

DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's women's basketball team dropped a 50-45 decision to Capital Athletic Conference rival Marymount University (Va.) Wednesday night at Wentworth Gymnasium.  The Wolverines fall to 3-12 overall and 2-6 in the CAC as the Saints move to 7-10 on the season and 4-4 in conference play.

The Wolverines outshot the Saints 31.6% to 28.1% on the night but Marymount got to the line more often to earn the victory.  Wesley led the entire first half and at one point held a 26-13 lead with 3:07 left after a breakaway layup by Rachelle Allen.

That lead would quickly get reduced to three after a Saints bucket but a trey by Katie Kirk (three points) with five seconds remaining gave the Wolverines a 29-23 lead at the half.

Marymount came out firing out of the break and went on a 15-1 run to open the half and took a 38-30 advantage at the 12:12 mark.  The Wolverines would regroup, however, and scored the next ten points to go back ahead by two, 40-38 with just over five minutes in regulation.

A three-point-play the old fashioned way converted by Tynisha Parks gave the lead back to the Saints and a trifecta on their next possession sealed the victory.

Jazmine Miller led the Wolverines with 17 points while grabbing seven rebounds and five steals.  Allen also scored in double figures with 10 points and she also dished out seven assists and four steals.  Aleisha Hobbs pitched in with eight points and ten boards.

The Navy & White return to action on Saturday, January 21 when they travel to Hood College for a 2 pm tipoff.
