Women’s Hoops’ Rally At Hood Falls Short

FREDERICK, Md. - Freshman Aleisha Hobbs had a career-game but Wesley College's women's basketball team was unable to overcome a 17-point deficit and fell to Hood College, 57-46, Saturday afternoon at the BB&T Arena.  The Wolverines fall to 3-13 on the season and 2-7 in the Capital Athletic Conference while the Blazers move to 5-12 overall and 1-8 in the CAC.

Hobbs scored a game-high 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting, while going 3-3 from the line and grabbing five rebounds on the day.  Career performances were also turned in by Heather Fuller and Jazmine Miller who pulled down 15 rebounds apiece.  Rachelle Allen was the only other Wesley player in double figures as she tallied 14 points.

Trailing 25-12 at the half, Miller scored on a jumper in the first possession out of the break but Hood hit a pair of threes to extend the lead to 31-14 with 18:17 left in regulation.

The Wolverines did not go down easily, however, as Hobbs led them on a 27-12 run over the next 10 minutes and 17 seconds to cut the Blazer lead to 43-41 at the 8:00 mark. A native of Salisbury, Md., Hobbs scored 12 points as Wesley shot 10-of-20 from the floor and made all five of its free throws during the rally.

After cutting the lead to two, Wesley went cold from the floor once again and did not make a field goal for just over six minutes and found themselves trailing by double digits once again.

Wesley, who returns to Wentworth Gymnasium on Monday night for a 7:15 tipoff against Keystone, was outshot 37.0% to 26.5% for the game.
