York Downs Wesley

DOVER, Del. - Stephanie Johnson and Amanda Browning scored three goals apiece, but Wesley College ran into a powerful York (Pa.) offense that had won five straight games, as the Wolverines fell 22-9 in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action.

Alison Napolitano scored five goals and added a pair of assists to lead the Spartans (10-4, 4-3 CAC), who have socred no less than 16 goals in any match during their streak. Lindsey Nixon added four goals and three assists, while Kaitlin Davis matched her with four goals.

York scored eight goals in the opening 14:34 before Wesley (5-7, 1-5 CAC) scored on a goal by Johnson with 14:16 to go in the half. After Kristy Powers made it 9-1 with an assist from Napolitano, the Wolverines reeled off three straight scores as the tried to fight back into the game.

Jade Martin and Browning scored unassisted to cut it to 9-3 before Martin assisted on Johnson's second goal to make it 9-4 with 8:11 to play in the half. A Napolitano tally with 6:59 left proved to be the final score of the opening 30 minutes, as York took a 10-4 lead into the break.

Papsan scored the opening goal of the second half, but the Wolverines cut it to 11-6 after goals by Johnson and Anna Moore with 27:53 remaining. A Napolitano goal 50 seconds later, however, opened a back-breaking 11-1 run that lasted until Brooke Bennett beat the Spartans' Anna Feustle with 3:38 remaining.

Bennett caused five turnovers and had four ground balls.

Wesley had trouble advancing the ball in the second half, converting only 4-of-9 clears, after converting 9-of-10 in the first half.

Jaclyn VanLuit and Rachel Papsan each had three goals and an assist.

Wesley will look to rebound on Saturday, April 12, when Frostburg State visits the Wolverines for a 1:00 PM non-conference match.
