Wolverines Fall at Moravian, 14-8

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Wesley College's Leslie Cervenka scored five goals and added an assist, but was overshadowed by and eight goal effort by Moravian's Erica Spatz in a 14-8 loss.

The Greyhounds scored seven times in the opening 11:09 to take command of the game. The Wesley (5-9) defense buckled down, however, keeping Moravian (7-4) off the scoreboard for the rest of the half.

The Wolverines used two goals apiece from Cervenka and Anna Moore to close the gap to 7-4 at the half.

After Spatz opened the scoring in the second half for the Greyhounds, Wesley ripped off scores from Amanda Browning and Cervenka and trailed but just two, 8-6, with 25:09 left to play. Spatz, however, scored the game's next four goals to put the game away. Lynda Kauffman capped the 5-0 run with a goal to make it 13-6 with 7:31 to play.

Cervenka scored two more goals down the stretch on her way to her season-high five goals.

In addition to her eight goals, Spatz also had eight ground balls in the game. Kauffman scored four times.

Sam Marconi picked up her first career start in goal, making four saves. Farryn Kauffman spent the middle 32:18 in net for Wesley and stopped five shots against five goals allowed.

Moravian's Courtney Rosenberg made 19 saves.

Wesley wraps up the regular season with a Thursday night Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) affair against No. 18 St. Mary's (Md.) at Scott Miller Stadium. The opening draw is at 7:00 PM.
