Wesley Drops CAC Finale
DOVER, Del. - No. 15 St. Mary's (Md.) used a 12
goal run to claim a 20-2 win over Wesley College in the Wolverines'
Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) finale.
Elizabeth Northfield scored just 1:17 into the game to give the
Seahawks (11-4, 6-1 CAC) a 1-0 lead. Stephanie Johnson answered
back for the Wolverines (5-10, 1-6 CAC) just 44 seconds later to
tie the game at 1-1.
But an Aileen McCausland goal with 27:13 left in the half started a
game-breaking 12-0 run that made it 13-1 after another McCausland
score with 1:24 left in the first. Jade Martin broke the run with a
Wesley score with just 23 seconds remaining in the period.
St. Mary's scored seven unanswered goals in the second half to
continue to put the game out of reach.
Farryn Kauffman started in goal and made seven saves in 44:52,
while Sam Marconi stopped three shots in 15:08.
Northfield scored five goals to lead the Seahawks, while Allie
Zerhusen, Lauren Carrier and McCausland had three apiece.
Ella Schoming made four saves for St. Mary's.
The two teams will meet again in the quarterfinals of the CAC
Championship Tournament on Sunday, April 20.
