Wesley Falls in CAC Playoffs
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - No. 15 St. Mary's (Md.)
proved too much for Wesley College to handle as the Wolverines
dropped a 25-5 score in the first round of the Capital Athletic
Conference (CAC) Championship Tournament.
The Seahawks (12-4) scored three times in the opening 1:09, but
Kyley McDevitt scored with 28:21 to play in the half to make it a
3-1 game. St. Mary's ripped off six more goals, however, before
Wesley (5-11) scored again. McDevitt's second goal - on a free
position shot - and a score by Stephanie Johnson cut it to 9-3 with
12:35 left in the half.
Goals by Kerry Buckley and Anna Moore kept Wesley within seven for
much of the remainder of the half, but the Seahawks ended the
period with four goals in the final 3:10 for a 16-5 halftime
lead.
St. Mary's ran off nine unanswered goals in the second half for the
25-5 win.
Lauren Carrier and Maggie Macleay had four goals apiece for St.
Mary's. Kelsey Branch had one goal and five assists for six
points.
McDevitt scored twice for the lone multi-point performance for the
Wolverines.
