Women's Lacrosse Blows Past Centenary

DOVER, Del – Coach Aimee LeClair led her team to a 14-9 win over Centenary (N.J.) in her first appearance at Scott D. Miller Stadium as head coach for the Wesley College women's lacrosse team. LeClair's Wolverines advance to 2-0 on the season while the Centenary Cyclones fall to 0-2.

Rylee Gould scored the first goal just two minutes into the match followed 20 seconds later by Alexandra Barbieri. Gould assisted Kirsten Ward for the third goal of the game. The Wolverines would go on to score four more goals in the first half. The Cyclones would only notch three goals in the half to put the Wolverines ahead by what would seem like an insurmountable lead.

Centenary did not give up on the game. They scored six more goals in the second half but Wesley would match their first half total of seven to maintain their lead in the game.

Rylee Gould, Jorden Lutz, and Kirsten Ward each tallied a hat trick in the home opener. Gould helped out with three hat tricks and Lutz brought in four ground balls and 4 draw controls. Kaitlin Brennan brought in a game high nine draw controls and three ground balls. Brennan also knocked two goals in for the Wolverines.

Making her first career start, Samantha Brannigan stopped ten shots and allowed nine goals in 60 minutes of action.

Centenary started Abby Voelkner scored a game high five goals but it was not enough to lead her team to a win.

The Wolverines return to action on Tuesday, March 11 at 3:00 pm to Ferrum, Virginia where they will face Ferrum College.
