DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College Women's Lacrosse team fell on Saturday afternoon, 14-3, against the Christopher Newport Captains in their first Capitol Athletic Conference battle. The Wolverines now stand at 2-2 on the year, 0-1 in the CAC while the Captains advance to 4-2 overall, 1-0 in conference play.
The Wolverines started the game with a draw control but that was one of the few wins they would have. Within minutes of the opening draw, CNU would score its first goal. Seven Captain goals later, Rylee Gould would find the back of the net to give Wesley a ray of hope. Unfortunately, Christopher Newport would score twice more in the first half to make the score 9-1 at the break.
Wesley got fired up to start the second half and came out with a bang. Kaitlin Brennan would control the draw and just two minute into the half, Gould would score her second goal of the match. Jorden Lutz would be awarded the draw control following Gould's goal and twenty seconds later, Lutz would score Wesley's third goal.
The Captains would fight back with five more goals in the second half to put the game too far out of reach for the Wolverines. Brennan and Lutz would combine for eight draw controls, four each to lead the team in that stat category 11-8 over Christopher Newport.
Hanna Slough takes the win for the Captains with nine saves and three goals allowed while Katherine Cooke takes the loss for the Wolverines allowing 14 goals while garnering nine saves.
The Wolverines return to action on Saturday, March 22 for a noon start against play CAC rival York College (PA) at York.
