Brehm paces women’s lacrosse against Goucher

DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College women's lacrosse team battled tough with the Goucher Gophers on Wednesday but suffered a 20-11 defeat in non-conference play.

Wesley went up 2-0 in the early part of the game. Brianna Bacon netted the game's opening goal two minutes into the game. 12 seconds later, Kassie Dieter would win the draw and find Fallon Fore in front of the net for Wesley's second goal of the game.

Goucher went on an 11-2 scoring run for the majority of the first half to overtake Wesley. Bacon and Paige Brehm each would net a goal inside the final five minutes of the first half to cut the Goucher lead to 11-6 before halftime.

Brehm tallied the opening goal of the second half when she stole the ball from the Goucher keeper behind the net and buried the shot in the open net.

However, Goucher capitalized on the man advantage for the rest of the game to stretch their lead to double-digits. Wesley would get the final goal of the game in the 58th minute when Dieter connected on a free-position shot.

Brehm tallied five goals, three draw controls and three ground balls to pace the Wolverines. Brianna Bacon and Fallon Fore each netted a pair of goals in the first half. Bacon added two assists along with three caused turnovers, three draw controls and two ground balls.

Kassie Dieter and Taylor Speicher each put away a goal in the second half. Dieter won three draws, dished out two assists and scooped up two ground balls. Taylor Speicher collected a team-high five ground balls.

Emily Magness and Emily Caldarelli caused four and three turnovers respectively. Maria Rowland made 13 saves in net for the Wolverines.

Wesley (5-2) will take on the Lancaster Bible Chargers on the road on Saturday in a make-up game from earlier in the season. The matchup is set for a 1 p.m. start.
