Wesley Picks Up CAC Win
DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College women's soccer team picked up its first CAC win of 2009 with a 5-0 win over Gallaudet.
Sammi Nevin (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) gave the Wolverines (4-5, 1-3 CAC) a 2-0 lead with her fourth and fifth goals of the season. She scored the game-winner off a long pass from Kim Fearnbach (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) for a breakaway goal in the ninth minute and put a header past the Bison (3-6-1, 0-3 CAC) keeper in the 10th minute with an assist from Sarah Doyle (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee).
Katie Fitzmartin (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) put Wesley ahead 3-0 at the half with an assist from Kaitlin Barry (Chester, N.J./Immaculata) in the 44th minute.
Fearnbach and Barry added goals in the second half as the Wolverines pulled away. Samantha Hannibal (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) notched the assist on Barry's score.
Sydney Kahan (Cranston, R.I./Cranston) recorded her fourth shutout of the season, making four saves.
Kara Gulvas stopped 23 shots for the Bison.
It was the first time Gallaudet had been shut out in its last seven games.
The Wolverines are back in action on Saturday, October 3 at 6:00 PM against Catholic on Homecoming.
