Amatucci Tabbed New Tennis Coach
DOVER, Del. - Wesley College Executive Director of Sports and Recreation Mike Drass announced the hiring of Ron Amatucci as the new head coach of the Wolverine tennis program. Amatucci will be responsible for the daily coaching responsibilities of both the men's and women's teams.
He replaces Elise Coar on the women's side, while former men's tennis Head Coach Ed Muntz will remain on the tennis staff to assist in the administrative duties.
Amatucci brings over 25 years of experience of tennis instruction to Wesley.
Most recently, he has run clinics for both the Kent County Parks & Recreation Department and the Annapolis Tennis School.
From 2004-06 he worked at the Annapolis Tennis School as a teacher, while also heading up the tennis program for the Police Athletic League in Smyrna, Delaware from 2004-07.
Amatucci has also worked in various capacities for the United States Tennis Association (USTA) in the Middle States and Mid-Atlantic Regions.
As a player, Amatucci was ranked as high as No. 3 in the state of Maryland by the USTA and 14th in the Mid-Atlantic Region. He achieved those rankings in both the 40-45 and 45-50 age groups.
Amatucci got his start in tennis instruction in 1982 teaching both intermediate and advanced classes for children and adults for the Greenbelt Tennis Association and Recreation Center, where worked until 1989.
He holds coaching and recreational instruction certificates from the USTA.
