Women's Track Finishes Fifth at UDel To Open 2012

NEWARK, Del. - Wesley College's women's track & field team opened the season with a fifth place showing at the Delaware Invitational held at the University of Delaware Fieldhouse.  The Wolverines finished ahead of Capital Athletic Conference rival, Hood College, while falling to Ursinus, Lincoln (Pa.), Merchant Marine and Holy Family.

Competing without a full roster, Sharis Allen really shined by winning the 60m hurdles in 10.55, besting the next finisher by nearly a quarter of a second.  Allen also finished second in the long jump with a 4.36m performance, .19m behind the winner.

Tristan Burris, Tamara Backus and Shakeiya Marshall also tallied points for the Wolverines in multiple events with Burris taking second in the mile (6:06.04) and anchored the 4x400m relay (4:53.28).  Joining Burris in the relay were Twila McCrae, Stevie Carpenter and Backus.

Backus and Marshall finished just ahead of each other in their sprints with Backus taking fifth in the 60m in 8.61, just five hundredths of a second of Marshall.  Marshall got the upper hand in the 200m, taking seventh in 29.59, just eighth hundredths of a second over Backus.

Also competing at the Invite were Division I members, Delaware, Delaware State, Navy Coppin State, Villanova and Saint Joseph's.  Team results for Division I were kept separately from team results from Division II-III.
