ANNAPOLIS, Md. – In a field of Division I opponents, the Wesley College men's and women's track & field teams posted good performances Saturday at the Wesley Brown Invitational, hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy.
The Wolverine men had 14 top-10 finishes while 13 women placed in the top-10.
Jasmine Brown led the Wolverine women with four top-ten finishes. Brown finished second in the high jump (1.70m), seventh in the long jump (5.17m), eighth in the triple jump (10.46m) and ninth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.46).
Also on the track, Ashley Morris finished the 60-meter hurdles in 9.33 seconds, good for fifth place. The 4x400-meter relay team of Dieunise Desir, Chiquita Deline, Danae Carter and Courtney Williams placed ninth with a time of 4:15.93.
Jourdyn Beverly paced the Wesley women's throws, Beverly came in sixth place in the shot put, throwing 12.07 meters. Beverly also took 10th in the weight throw with a heave of 14.10 meters.
Greg Taylor led the Wolverine men on the track at the Naval Academy with a second place time in the 60-meter dash. Taylor finished the 60 in 6.95 seconds, .02 seconds shy of the first place time. Taylor also placed 10th in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.85 seconds.
Roland Attoh-Okine tallied a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.25 seconds. Patrick Schlosser and Dominic McAnulty turned in a pair of sixth place finishes for the Wolverines. Schlosser was sixth in the 60-meter dash (7.10) while McAnulty placed sixth in the 400-meter dash (50.08). Schlosser, McAnulty, Attoh-Okine and Joseph Crenshaw teamed up to finish fourth in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:28.48.
The Wolverine men had impressive showings in the field. Rayshawn McRae registered three top-10's in the jumps. McRae finished fifth in the high jump (1.84m) and the triple jump (6.29m) while adding a ninth-place leap in the long jump with a mark of 6.29 meters.
Brandon Hunter and Julian Washington followed McRae in the triple jump, finishing sixth and seventh with leaps of 12.39 and 11.89 meters respectively. Justin Cowgill and James Okike also followed McRae with sixth and seventh place marks in the high jump. Cowgill recorded a jump of 1.78 meters while Okike had a jump of 1.74 meters.
Adam Gibson and Alhaji Sankoh rounded out the top-10's in the field. Gibson placed ninth in the pole vault (3.45m) while Sankoh notched a 10th place finish in the weight throw (11.54m).
The Wolverine track & field teams will return to action next Saturday when they compete in the Frank Colden Invitational, hosted by Ursinus College.
