Wesley Stymied at St. Mary's
DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College volleyball team fell in three sets at Capital Athletic Conference rival St. Mary's (Md.).
Nettie Choice (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) paced the Wolverines (8-20, 1-5 CAC) with five kills on eight attempts and the team's only block of the night. Lilia Brekke (Prescott Valley, Ariz./Caesar Rodney (Del.)) posted four kills and six digs. Carle Ax (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) added a team-high nine assists adn Wesley's only ace of the evening.
The Seahawks (14-9, 3-3 CAC) slowly but steadily pulled away in the opening set for a 25-12 win. In the second set, Wesley trailed just 6-5 after a service eror by St. Mary's (Md.). Wesley returned the favor, however, opening the door for a back-breaking 14-5 run that dug a 20-10 for the Wolverines as the Seahawks noctched a 25-11 victory.
A kill by Choice early in the third set pulled Wesley to within 5-4, but another service error started an 8-0 run for the Seahawks who went on to take the set and the match 25-13.
Jen Lamar had nine kills and four blocks for the Seahawks. Katie Obal dished out 18 assists.
Wesley has the weekend off before hosting Gallaudet on Monday, October 26 at 7:00 PM.
