PITMAN, N.J. – Three Wesley College football players were named New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Players of the Week for their performances in Wesley's 66-0 win over William Paterson on Saturday.
Sophomore running back E.J. Lee earned NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after finishing the game with 128 yards on just 13 attempts. Lee averaged 9.7 yards per carry. He also scored five first-half rushing touchdowns, tying the single-game record set by Jamar Baynard and Brandon Steinheim. Lee currently leads the NJAC in both rushing (159.3 yards per game) and scoring (16.0 points per game).
Freshman running back Gyair Sharper was named the NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week. With his first collegiate carries in just his second game played, Sharper finished the contest with 15 yards on four rushes. One of 11 different Wesley ball-carriers in the game, Sharper also recorded his first career touchdown on a 3-yard run for Wesley's seventh rushing score in the win.
Freshman defensive end Shymere Vessels picked up NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week honors. In just the third game of his collegiate career, he collected four total tackles, including three solo stops. He also registered a career-high 2.0 tackles for a loss to help Wesley limit William Paterson to just 20 yards of total offense.
The No. 23-ranked Wolverines will host the Southern Virginia Knights on Sat., Sept. 30 for their 2017 home opener. Kickoff from Drass Field is set for 1 p.m.
