Arthur Smith enters his second year on the Wesley staff in 2018. He is in charge of the secondary after serving as the linebackers coach in 2017.
In 2017, Smith helped coach the second-best scoring defense in the NJAC and a school record three-game scoreless streak. Under his tutelage, Samer Manna earned All-Region laurels and Manna and Mike Sabino. All-NJAC honors.
Smith comes from Montana State University-Northern, where he served as the linebackers coach and assistant strength and conditioning coach since August 2014. In two of his three years coaching the linebackers for the Lights, one of his linebackers finished in the top 10 in the Frontier Conference in tackles.
Prior to his time at Montana State-Northern, Smith began his coaching career at his alma mater, the University of Mount Union, where he served as the assistant linebacker coach in 2012. During his season with Mount Union, the Purple Raiders won the Division III National Championship.
Smith had a successful playing career for the Purple Raiders, where he was a two-year starter at linebacker and played in two national championship games. He was named a First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference linebacker in 2011.
Smith then played professionally from 2012-15 in several indoor football leagues, including the Indoor Football League for the Allen Wranglers, Wyoming Calvary and Billings Wolves, Marian Blue Wolves of the Continental Indoor Football League and the Amarillo Venom of the Lone Star Football League.
Smith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education with a minor in health and education from the University of Mount Union in December 2012. Smith then earned his Master of Science in education, instruction and learning from Montana State University-Northern in May of 2017.
